Tuesday Technique: Paper Piecing

Welcome to another Tuesday Technique! This week we are looking at paper piecing!

Paper piecing is a great technique that can give your projects depth, texture and a look that elevates them above the everyday!  To paper piece you will select an image (and select carefully as images with many small parts may prove to be frustrating for your first experience) and stamp that image on a variety of papers.  Depending on the stamp image you may want to only use papers with a smaller pattern – this will ensure that your image fits and looks nice when complete.  Once you have stamped your images then you can cut out the individual pieces and glue them onto the base stamped image- in the case of my card here I paper pieced the owl and glued all my smaller pieces onto the blue body base.

Yes this can be a timely technique but believe me sometimes it is worth it!

Tuesday Technique : Spray Pen

Today we are going to look at the spray pen technique and using it for your cards and layouts!

Spray pens are fairly easy to use and we sell them in a convenient 3-pack- if you care for your pen then it will last you use after use! To care for it just make sure that you clean it after every use- storing any unused mixes in your pen could cause it to clog.

There are two recipes I use for making up a mix.

1. Re-inker and Pearl paint- mix a bit of water, a drop or two of re-inker and a very small amount of pearl paint in the barrel of your spray pen.  This mix will give your spray a pearly-sheen when it is dry.

2. Re-inker and water- mix a bit of water with a drop or two of re-inker.  Perfect for lots of different projects!

Tips for using your spray pen:

try to keep a box around for using your spray in.  Place your project in the bottom of the box before spraying so that you do not end up decorating your entire table or room!

The first time you spray try it on a scrap piece of paper- holding your pens in different ways (or close or far away) will give your spray pattern different looks.  To ensure you get the one your like you will want to safely try it out ahead of time.

Simple Burlap Card

This card was inspired by one I saw on Pinterest (you can see it if you follow my pinterest boards in ‘Card Inspiration’)- I loved the simple use of just a bit of burlap.  When I went to create this I was surprised though that I did not have ‘even a bit’ left! I love burlap and our burlap ribbon is one of my fav’s- I had to go and borrow a piece from a fiend- crafter problems!  I stamped three flowers from one of the stamp sets and then popped them up with some foam tape.  I added a simple sentiment and some fabulous bling to finish it all off!

Where do you find your inspiration? I would love to hear so please post in the comments below!

Feather Card with Skylark

You know what they say about Birds of a feather….. they usually become the best of friends!

This card was made using the Skylark paper and complements, the feathers stamp set and some natural hemp.  The edges of my card were distressed by scissor distressing (carefully running your scissors across the edge of your paper in ONE direction- I don’t recommend a back and forth motion as this tends to cause rips in the paper).

Spring/Summer CTMH Idea Book Reveal: Day 15

Welcome to the last day! Today I get to sit back and wait to see how much hostess rewards we have to give away to our Grand Prize winner! I cannot wait- be sure to check back tomorrow to see who it is!

Today I wanted to showcase a card and a stamp set- CTMH has some of the cutest stamps!  The paper is one you have seen before – maybe it is my actual favourite pack since I seem to use it so much- Skylark! I actually have mixed in two stamp sets on this card- one which is an upcoming stamp of the month (the word bubble) and the ‘Owls’ stamp set.  To create my colourful owl I stamped the branch and the owl on a variety of papers (they are from a few different paper packs).  I then cut out the pieces I wanted and pieced them together- paper piecing! I love how it all turned out in the end.

Spring/Summer CTMH Idea Book Reveal: Day 4

So glad to see you on Day 4 of our CTMH Idea book reveal!! I promised you yesterday that I would share a card created with the prize for yesterday’s challenge (which if you have not done or entered into yet be sure to do so- you have until tonight!)

hip hip hooray card

I love how this card turned out! I stamped the balloons on several pieces of cardstock using the same colour of ink (this is called tone on tone stamping).  I then cut them all out by hand and placed them on my card with some 3D foam tape to give them life (some are glued flat to the card as well).  My balloon lines are hand drawn and I added some of the adhesive sequins from the Lollydoodle card workshop (they were leftovers and so fun!) My sentiment is cut out and stamped using the Cricut Artiste cartridge collection.

Spring/Summer CTMH Idea Book Reveal: Day 2

Welcome back! Day 2 of the CTMH Idea book reveal features a cute card with a oh-so-popular hot air balloon!  I am seeing these EVERYWHERE in fashion, home decor and of course papercrafts!

My card is a basic 4 1/4 by 5 1/2 card on lagoon card stock.  I used the CTMH Artiste cartridge to cut out my clouds.  The hot air balloon was hand cut (it turned out so well I didn’t mind at all) and paper pieced together.  I used some of our glitter paper to add some bling to the balloon and then also added a bit to the bottom of the card under the sentiment.

Valentine’s Day Ideas for the whole family!

I love holidays- especially the ones that really allow me to be creative and have fun with my family! Valentine’s Day is 100% one of those holidays!

I have created lots of fun stuff in preparation for the big day (and have a bag of hidden ‘goods’ to surprise my loved ones with that morning).

Here are just a few of the things I have created that I hope will inspire you!

kids valentine

This is the Valentine ‘treat’ for my kids to take to their class (at school for one and daycare for the other).  I used the February Stamp of the Month to create the ‘Wild Thing’ image and on the back used a nice black pen and a stamp image to add the phrase “… you are WRITE on”- cute, right?!

Sorry photo removed for publication!

This in the card I intend to give to my sweet hubby! He tends to (really) dislike holidays and usually does not do a whole lot but I LOVE them (and if reads this then I suggest you do a little something for all of us that day… I know you can do it!).  This card looks simple (and truly it was) but it took a while. I used our new flamingo dots (you are getting some serious sneak peeks here!)  and a heart I cut out on the cricut.  The heart was cut out on Kraft paper so that it would blend in and not look like I had a base at all.  I then added my flamingo dots one by one.  To make sure they stay put I coated the whole heart with a layout of liquid glass- voila!

love you frame

And last- my ‘I Love You’ decor frame.  At Christmas I had my advent calendar set up on this- now I am switching it to Valentines and I plan to list all the reasons I love my family and all the things they do to keep the love going! They can add to this as well.  I have a video showing the frame in detail below- enjoy!!
