Minecraft Birthday Party (or how I use my CTMH for good… according to my son)

minecraft collage

I think if you have a boy between the ages of 7 and 12 then you probably know about Minecraft- like me you probably do not know much about it.  Before this birthday party I knew that it was a building game of some sort- like a virtual lego.  I also knew that it involved ‘creepers’, ‘zombies’ and the occasional lost pig…. AND that my son LOVED it! In fact, he pretty much spent every second he could playing it or watching videos about how to play it better- yikes!

Fast forward a few months and Austin is turning 10 and of course wants a Minecraft party- so I did research and put together a pretty decent party- he thought so anyway! For sure- my CTMH skills came in handy (and sometimes my CTMH products!)

Places I found inspiration- pinterest of course! I found printables through that avenue and printed them on Studio J so that I had nice photo quality signs and invitations for the party.  Candy bar – inspired by pinterest (this is a staple at my kid parties) and truly only came together after strolling through the aisles of the Bulk Barn.  Games? didn’t need to do ANY- they all brought their devices and either played (good old fashion do their-own-thing play or played mine craft).  Every boy at the party loved it and I had one super-happy 10 year old by the end!

Spring/Summer CTMH Idea Book Reveal: Day 15

Welcome to the last day! Today I get to sit back and wait to see how much hostess rewards we have to give away to our Grand Prize winner! I cannot wait- be sure to check back tomorrow to see who it is!

Today I wanted to showcase a card and a stamp set- CTMH has some of the cutest stamps!  The paper is one you have seen before – maybe it is my actual favourite pack since I seem to use it so much- Skylark! I actually have mixed in two stamp sets on this card- one which is an upcoming stamp of the month (the word bubble) and the ‘Owls’ stamp set.  To create my colourful owl I stamped the branch and the owl on a variety of papers (they are from a few different paper packs).  I then cut out the pieces I wanted and pieced them together- paper piecing! I love how it all turned out in the end.

Spring/Summer CTMH Idea Book Reveal: Day 14

Only one day left! WOW! I cannot wait to pick and announce the winner of the hostess rewards for our CTMH Idea Book reveal- you will have till midnight (MST) on the 15th to submit your orders to the party on my SHOP (be sure you ‘join’ the Idea Book reveal party)- the winner will be announced here on the 16th!

Today’s project is a simple one but it focuses on an item that I actually intro ducted in an earlier post as a teaser- our Picture my Life system.  (If you are familiar with Project Life or Pocket scrapbooking then you will be familiar with this style of scrapbooking).

We have come out with 8 different PML kits- each kit features 44 4×6 cards, 78 3×4 cards, a 12×12 designed cover page and 10 memory protectors of various designs.  This allows you to add an album (did I mention we have two new patterns of albums) and you will have a completed book in an afternoon!  This is the answer for those who like the look of a scrapbook but don’t have the time or don’t want the fuss.  You can keep your PML book simple or you can dress it up with some simple accessories like washi tape!

Here are pics I took of 6 of the kits- I have even organized mine in our medium organizer for storage.  This picture shows only the left side of the organizer but all the cards fit very nicely – even with all 8 kits I still have room in the back for another 8 or other pieces (like accessories or pictures) that I might want to take with me when completing one of these albums.

This is such a great system and I cannot wait to get started!

Spring/Summer CTMH Idea Book Reveal: Day 13

Hello, hello, hello!! I am so excited for today’s reveal- it is one of my favourite new products in our idea book!

Last fall we introduced a line of ‘craft’ jewellery called Base and Bling- this line was very popular as it allowed you to mix and match supplies and accessories you may have already had, with fabric, to make necklaces, cuffs, rings and hair accessories! I enjoyed them thoroughly! CTMH has extended this line and it is SO MUCH MORE FUN! I REALLY LOVE IT! Yep – that much!

Our new line of Base and Bling involves choosing your chain, your pendant and a matching glass cover, a charm (or two) and a fun picture for inside your pendant- either from our style sheets or from your own life! This is what a finished necklace looks like!

This one I added to a simple card cut out on the Artiste cartridge- for presentation.  The scalloped top to my card is covered with some of our new washi tape!  I love this necklace and it totally is me- from the phrase to the charms- best part… I can make more pendants and mix and match every day for a different look! This necklace shows the antiqued gold finish but we also offer a antiqued silver finish.  Isn’t this awesome?!

Here are some pictures of the pieces I put together:

Now for today’s reveal.

jubilee layout 1

This is Jubilee- bright, playful, sunny and summery (and as I write this and look out my window at yet another foot of snow after a big snowfall I cannot wait to feel sunny and summery!).

This layout is from another workshop on the go kit.  I love how it all came together and how the colours worked perfectly to scrapbook my Canada Day memories from last summer! It also made me wish we had made it out to the fall fair.

What would you scrapbook with this fun paper?

Spring/Summer CTMH Idea Book Reveal: Day 11

Welcome to Day 11 of the CTMH Idea Book reveal- today’s page is simple and sweet! I simply love how it all came together.  I based this page on a sketch I saw on Pinterest ( you can follow me on Pinterest by clicking here).  I knew when I saw the layout that I wanted to keep things clean but beautiful.  The paper I used is all from the Skylark paper pack- isn’ that patterned piece with the birds in the top left corner to die for! Would you believe the paper looks like that- I didn’t have to add anything to that top corner!

I did add some simple pieces to finish the page off- some flowers and a bird from the Skylark Assortment and a few of the chipboard pieces from the Skylark complements.

Spring/Summer CTMH Idea Book Reveal: Day 10

Day 10 already! The time is passing quickly and the orders are rolling in to the CTMH Idea book reveal party- have you ordered yet?  Remember you can order on my SHOP under the Idea Book reveal party and you will be entered in to the draw to win the HOSTESS REWARDS for the entire party!

Today I am going to show another layout for another workshop on the go kit- this one is Lollydoodle! How adorable is this layout of my daughter and her friends at gymnastics?!  I love the interesting cuts on this layout that make it so much more interesting than a basic layout full of square cuts!  This kit is one that you do need to purchase, or already own, the CTMH Cricut Artiste cartridge if you would like to complete it.  You can create the layout with the straight cuts if you like but the intricate ones are so much more fun!

Do you have any of our Cricut cartridges? Tell me below what you own, which cartridge is on your wish list and how you plan to get it.  I may just draw a lucky winner to win a special prize!

Spring/Summer CTMH Idea Book Reveal: Day 9

Welcome to Day 9 of the CTMH Idea Book reveal! Today we are moving away from the soft and springlike to a more masculine product reveal.  For a long time (8 years)  the only child I had to scrapbook was my son, Austin.  Early on I learned to really appreciate the time and attention that CTMH pays to making masculine papers with a board appeal.  Timberline is a paper just like that- although it can be very theme based – outdoorsy or camping- it can also be used in creative ways to fit different purposes!

My first layout comes from the Timberline workshop on the go kit- I already spoke about the ease of these kits earlier but they come with a full paper pack, usually two full accessory packs, an exclusive stamp set and instructions for two layouts!  I can’t say we camp a lot but I still enjoyed putting this kit together with all the cute stamp images and super-cute wooden accessories!

timberline layout 1timberline layout 1 close

My next layout shows the same timberline paper, timberline assortment and timberline stickease being used in a  completely different fashion.  I am a big believer in scrapbooking the more difficult times in our lives- we are great at featuring the fun and happy but most tend to stay away from anything deeper.  This past summer, Austin had to undergo open-heart surgery to repair a congenital heart defect (meaning he was born with this).  Certainly one of the hardest moments of our lives and VERY stressful! It was rough on Austin but he was able to keep moving through it all- he persevered through pain, discomfort and hours of just feeling crummy!  All of this I made sure to document in this layout- I want him to know just how amazing he did and how special he is to us!

In order to make this theme fit the ‘adventure’ theme of the stickers I really only had to adjust a few things- I took a few stickers and added some writing to them.  the ‘picnic’ stickers now says ‘no picnic’ and the ‘happy camper’ now reads ‘not a happy camper’.  Other stickers I just had to use in the correct place- things like ‘take a hike’ or ‘roughen’ it’ were perfect for what I was writing about and helped carry through my story.
